A History of Paisley
One of the most enduring motifs ever devised is the Paisley design. The image originated in prehistoric times as a representative of the Tree of Life, the Date Palm and the iconic image has evolved over the centuries, uniting the rich cultures of the East + West.
The immediately recognisable Paisley Pattern motif is a representation of the tightly curled palm frond just as it begins to grow and unfurl, and as such it was a symbol of fertility, prized by the Babylonians, and other ancient cultures.

About The Creator
Paisley lover from Childhood Petra has now combined her bespoke design label “Français au Lit” with her passion for the beautiful motif, the feel of luxury silk and the dream of a European-made classic product for discerning „Silk Slumberers“.
Petra Wellenstein began her career in the heart of London aged 17 years. She started her own label in ´80s in Berlin, and then moved onto Costume DesignIn National + International Film Productions.
In 2008 she started her own costume rental Design House and success fully sold her business in 2022.
The Product

The prints are from Liberty London. Each individual piece is handmade by skilled + passionate artisans in our Berlin boutique studio. Our product line gives you the freedom to match and combine any piece from our range of Full Pyjamas (top+bottoms), Slumber Bottoms, Shorts, Racerback Tank tops and Kimonos (short or long).
